Since its inception in the Mughal period, Darbhanga Raj has been known for upholding and patronizing the traditions and culture of the country. Inspired by the contributions of Mahamahopadhyaya Mahesh Thakur, the founder of the dynasty, and his successors, Maharaniadhirani Kam Sundari, the lone surviving member of the house, decided to establish this Foundation for continuing the mission of her distinguished family as far as possible.
Kalyani Niwas, wherein Maharaniadhirani Kam Sundari resides at present, is the headquarters of the Foundation (according to the deed of trust, mentioned above). There are three regular employees to look after the workings of the Foundation. Besides, several scholars are attached with the Foundation as its resource persons.
